BEGINNINGS
Growing up on a cotton and tobacco farm in Piedmont, North Carolina, I developed a lifelong interest in rural vernacular and landscape painting. Surrounded by nature then and now, my works reflect the open spaces and historic utility of barns and farms.
I also detour into interiors and still lifes which was my primary training.

The countryside was an interesting beginning. Unlike most kids, I never rode a bike to school or walked through a neighborhood to friends’ houses. My memories were playing in the wild kingdom of forests and creeks, and rummaging through abandoned farm buildings often hidden behind overgrown jungles of weeds.
While art has been an integral part of my life since childhood, I have been actively painting for 35 years after returning to college to study studio art and art history. The fundamentals of design and composition were key focus areas of.
My husband and I lived 38 years in Florida where I engaged in exhibitions and art events, community activism and environmental causes. We are avid travelers visiting South America, Europe, South Africa and numerous places in North America.
PRESENT
Today, my husband and I live in Blowing Rock, NC an ideal setting for an artist.
My studio is organized chaos, which fits neatly in my life.
In my sixth decade, I’ve found that nature has a way of circling back into our lives; I welcome the peacefulness of painting and exploring nature and the countryside all around me.
Perhaps it’s a throwback to my childhood. These rural and natural environments are more valuable to me than the city lights I was drawn to in my youth.
I’m still searching for the Whippoorwill.
